Where is Tibet? A small FAQ

Filed Under (Tibet) by diG1tY on 11-02-2008

The reasons behind this post are easy. I’ve tried Google Maps and I wrote Tibet. Silly enough, when the page loaded I was directed to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, but it was in ????? and above the question marks there were some Chinese symbols. But why is Tibet being prompted in Chinese? Interesting questions came in my mind. I zoomed out a bit and according to the map Tibet was part of China. It is whiting China’s borders. Here are some questions and their answers for you to consider.

Where is Tibet?

Tibet is located between India and China. This is Tibet’s geographic position. The full list of Tibet’s neighbours consist of : India, Nepal, Bhutan, Burma, China. Okay..so far so good. Now we know where “they are”. That’s cool, nothing bad. Read the hard answer and you will know about “it”.

Where is Tibet - Part II of the answer.

Tibet doesn’t exist. To be concrete it was destroyed a few decades ago. Now the first thing in your mind that pops up(I am sure of it!) what the hell am is this guy talking about? Read below and you will know.

How?

Good joke, China had 563millions, Tibet had around 6 millions. Statistics are statistics.

Why?

The truth is that they can. There are no real reasons, there some “explanations”. And what can a small country do to China? There aren’t more than 5 countries that can stand up to China’s sizes. Population, economy..and everything else. That’s just how things are. What can you do?

How and when did it happened?

During 1951 a slow process has started. A process that will bring a nation to almost complete extinction. Even though the people are still there and half-alive, they have almost no rights. For Tibetans it’s forbidden to speak Tibetan in Tibet. Easy for a great nation like China. How would you feel if you were in their shoes? In the next weeks I am going to write a lot about this issue.

  2. This is just the begining since I am very interested in Tibet, yoga and Dalai Lama and those things are very important because they need to be said.
